Cerebral Localizations.—Connections between cortical areasand certain parts of the body have been noted, and their controlover those parts has been demonstrated (Figs. i86, 187). Likewise the centers for the special senses are fairlywell known—as for vision and memory in the occipital lobe; fortaste in temporal; for touch in the parietal; and for hearing and smellin the temporal snad frontal. The function of the cerebellum is to associate or coordinate theactions of muscle-groups for the accurate performance of specialmovements. This is most conspicuously shown in maintaining theequilibrium of the body, whether standing or walking.
