From an early Imperial monument commemorating the battle of Actium in 31 B.C. and the triumph of Octavian in 29 B.C.

Exhibition history Part of a group of reliefs acquired in Italy by Per Afán de Ribera, the first Duke of Alcala and Viceroy of Naples, in the 16th century. They were shipped to Spain to adorn his palace, the Casa de Pilatos in Seville, and after passing into the hands of the Dukes of Medinaceli in the 17th century they were moved to Madrid, where they were displayed in the Medinaceli family palaces until 1965, when the collection was broken up. Most of the panels, including those that depict the naval battle at Actium, are now in the collection of the Dukes of Cardona in Cordoba. Two panels with parts of the triumphal procession are in the Casa de Pilatos in Seville; and one panel from the procession, as well as two small fragments from another panel, probably from the battle frieze, are in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest.
