Арен Мейр (англ. Aren Maeir, ивр. אהרון מאיר) — израильский археолог, профессор Университета Бар-Илан.

Биография

Родился в 1958 году в Рочестере, штат Нью-Йорк.

В 1969 году репатриировался в Израиль.

Службы в Армии обороны Израиля (1977—1982) проходил в элитном подразделении и достиг звания капитана.

Затем учился в Еврейском университете в Иерусалиме и получил степень бакалавра, а в 1997 году — докторскую степень с отличием.

В 2002—2003 проходил аспирантуру в Массачусетском технологическом институте.

С 1992 или 1993 года преподает в Университете имени Бар-Илана.

В 2005—2007 годах возглавлял факультет изучения Земли Израиля и археологии в Университете имени Бар-Илана.

Проводил раскопки в Иерусалиме, Хацоре, Йокнеаме, Бет-Шеане и т. д., с 1996 года — руководитель раскопок в Тель-Цафите (отождествляемым с Гатом), где был был най­ден гли­ня­ный чере­пок, дати­ру­емый около 900 г. до н. э., на кото­ром древне­се­мит­ски­ми бук­ва­ми начер­та­ны сло­ва «Алват» и «Влт», как он считает, представляющее собой фили­стим­ский вари­ан­т напи­са­ния име­ни Голиафа.

Сферы интересов: бронзовый и железный века в Восточном Средиземноморье, с особым акцентом на культуру Древнего Леванта; древняя торговля; металлургия; гончарное производство; археология Иерусалима; Средний бронзовый век Леванта; хронология 2-го тысячелетия до н. э.; народы моря и филистимляне; отношения между Египтом и Левантом; древнее оружие и войны; древний культ и религия.

Автор более 100 научных работ.

Женат на профессоре Адине Меир (урождённой Хартман), главе Школы трудотерапии при Еврейском университете, имеет троих сыновей.
